Literature Circles - Rain School

Summary

Rain School takes place in a desert.  Thomas is the main character of the story.  Thomas is a caring boy that is excited to learn for the first time.  He asks his older brother and sister, “Will I get a pencil?  Will I get a notebook?” “Stop asking so many questions and keep up,” said his older brother and sister.  His question is answered at school though.  When he gets to school there is no school and no classrooms.  It doesn’t matter because there is a teacher. The teacher says, “Your first lesson is to build the school.”   The children work together to build the school.

Theme

Don’t be discouraged if work is destroyed.  Just try it again.

Main Character

Thomas is a kid who is very eager to learn, has friends, and is respectful.  In the book it said Thomas was very eager to learn and he looks happy with his classmates.  He is a respectful because he is a good listener.

I liked the book Rain School because it is very interesting.  It is interesting because these kids are going to school for the first time and when they get there the teacher says, “Your first lesson is to build the school.”  My favorite part is when the school is done and everyone is happy.  I like it because it is happy.  I’d recommend Rain School for people that are interested in how the world was a long time ago.

I think the book you’re about to read is pretty good!  It has a lot of interesting things such as making mud bricks.  You should find out if how Thomas and his class mates build their school.  My favorite part is when they finish building the school because all the children are very happy to start the school year.

Rain School is a good book for people who like building things on their own.  My favorite part is when they come to school and there is no school, and they will have to build it themselves.  You should definitely read this book!

I like to read Rain School because they build a school and after one year it rained hard and got destroyed.  In one part they built the school and Thomas knows how to make mud bricks and desks and they learned for one year.  The second part it rained and the school got destroyed.  The reason I like this book is they built a school and learned in it.  I recommend this book because people can enjoy reading this book.
